About the Southern States Trip - For a long time, I had talked with Delilah about going to visit the Deep South - including most of the states that we had previously missed in our driving adventures. Since Barbara had lived there in her childhood, and very much disliked some aspects, she wasn't going to return. In talking with one of my work friends, Jan, he and his son were interested in an adventure too. So, we got together for a minimalist discussion of destinations, which included Walt Disney World for me and Delilah, floating on a river, and Key West for Jan, threw some food and supplies in the RV and off we went.
Just highlights here, since again it's already a year ago-
Departed and quickly found the the cab AC, which we had reloaded with coolant, wasn't working well. Then, we found that the generator, which powers the cabin AC, would stop running in the heat - on the first day of the trip, when it was 118F... That night, I tried to schedule a service for the AC in Tuscon, but they were a week out. So, I decided to schedule for 5 days out in Texas instead.
Well, the cabin AC caught on fire the next day. We replaced it with a window vented one. Two days later, the CAB AC compressor locked up, breaking the Fan belt in Big Bend. 6 hour wait for a two, to the only repair place around on a Friday evening. Was going to be at least 4 days delay, so decided to rent a car - which entailed local rental 80 mi to supposed rental place, but they only rent in state, so another 6 hour bus trip to Midland for real rental - and after other complications, they only had an extended cab pickup. Drive pickup 6 hours back, then throw gear in the back - which gets rained on, until we finally get it swapped for car. From there, other than change of plans, pretty smooth sailing.
